Cause of Death Revealed for Man Who Died After Riding Universal Epic Universe Roller Coaster

The cause of death for Kevin Rodriguez Zavala, a 32-year-old man who died after riding the Stardust Racers roller coaster at Orlando, Fla.’s Epic Universe theme park, has been revealed.

Zavala was found unresponsive after riding the coaster on Wednesday, Sept. 17, and was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

Zavala died after sustaining “multiple blunt impact injuries,” Orange-Osceola Chief Medical Examiner Joshua Stephany said, per local station News 6. Zavala’s death was ruled an accident, Stephany added, according to WFTV and WESH.

“We are devastated by this tragic event and extend our sincerest sympathies to the guest’s loved ones,” a Universal spokesperson previously told PEOPLE in a statement. “We are fully cooperating with Orange County and the ongoing investigation. The attraction remains closed.”

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office previously identified the victim as a man in his 30s in a statement obtained by PEOPLE.

“It’s very early in the investigation and we have no further information for release at this time,” police added at the time.

Epic Universe opened in May 2025. According to the park, the Stardust Racers attraction can reach speeds of 62 miles per hour as riders travel across its 5,000 feet of track.

Park officials have not yet announced when the coaster is expected to reopen.
