‘Filming reels, dance videos or…’: Delhi Metro’s stern WARNING to content creators for ‘creating a nuisance’

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has started cracking down on people making disruptive content inside trains and stations. From now on, passengers are not allowed to record social media reels, dance clips, or any other such videos on Metro premises. The new rule was introduced on September 14 and is being added across the entire Metro network. Officials told News18 that the rollout will be completed by the end of this week.

Fresh announcements in both Hindi and English are being played inside trains and stations. These include a clear warning: “Filming reels, dance videos or any other such activities are strictly prohibited.” This warning has been added to the regular messages that already ban eating food or sitting on the floor.

Although the Metro Railways Act of 2002 does not directly mention “reels,” DMRC clarified that anyone making such videos can still be punished under existing rules for “creating a nuisance.”

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) says the main reason behind its new ban on reels and dance videos is to protect the comfort of commuters. “This step has been taken to ensure that fellow passengers are not inconvenienced due to such activity,” said Anuj Dayal, DMRC’s principal executive director of corporate communications, as quoted by News18.

As part of this effort, DMRC has also launched a social media campaign asking people not to play loud music on their phones while travelling. “These initiatives are being taken to make travelling by the Delhi Metro a comfortable experience,” Dayal added.

Over time, the Metro has become a hotspot for shooting reels and short videos, which often disturb regular passengers. In 2023, DMRC even asked its flying squads—originally meant to stop men from entering women’s coaches—to monitor people making inappropriate videos. But despite repeated warnings, the trend continued, with many such clips still going viral online.

Earlier this year, officials had also urged commuters to report misbehaviour instead of filming it. In April, a 25-year-old man was arrested after a video of him drinking alcohol and eating inside a metro coach spread on social media.
