SPOILER WARNING: This article includes detailed spoilers regarding Love Is Blind Season 9 episodes 1-9.
Love Is Blind star Patrick Suzuki didn’t get his fairytale ending in season 9 after Kacie McIntosh broke off their engagement shortly after they met in person. Now, he’s revealed that their breakup took a toll on his mental health, but therapy helped him heal.
“I probably spent thousands of dollars on therapy, just every single week, sometimes twice a week, just because I just wanted to figure out what it was,” Patrick, 31, said during an interview with Entertainment Weekly published on Wednesday, October 8. “And at the end of the day, I kind of realized when it comes to finding love, it’s not about race or how you look or things like that. It’s about just being confident and healthy mentally, that way you know what you bring to the table, you know what you’re willing to tolerate, and you know what you want outside of the insecurities, because insecurities can just blind you.”
Despite the way his particular story ended, Patrick said that his experience on Love Is Blind helped him grow.

“Right now, I feel way healthier than I did when I was in the pods, and I’m happy that the story came out the way it did,” the construction manager explained. “And I hope it’s inspiring for a lot of people that suffer from the same thing. A lot of people have a hard time healing or uncovering what they need to heal.”
Patrick’s breakup has been one of the most talked-about moments of Season 9, which premiered on October 1. Viewers saw him connect with both Kacie, 34, and Anna Yuan in the pods. While his relationship with Anna, 28, seemed stronger, she ultimately chose to leave the show early due to personal reasons. He continued to bond with Kacie and she happily accepted his proposal.
Not long after meeting in person, Kacie admitted to producers that she didn’t think her “attraction” to Patrick was going to be able to “grow.” However, when she spoke to Patrick later, she was far from clear on if she was choosing to break up with him or if she just wanted to skip out on the couples’ trip to Baja.

After returning to Denver, Patrick met up with the rest of the cast and he claimed that Kacie ghosted him and refused to give the ring back, but fans likely won’t know more until the season 9 reunion.
Love Is Blind Season 9 episodes 1-9 are currently streaming on Netflix with episodes 10 and 11 premiering on October 15.
