Kevin Jonas‘ wife, Danielle Jonas, got personal while sharing a major health update, revealing she’s been diagnosed with Lyme disease.
While speaking to Parents in an interview published on Thursday, October 9, Danielle, 39, explained she went to a doctor when she noticed that her hair was shedding more than usual.
“They tried to tell me it was anxiety. Finally, I had a biopsy that showed I actually had Lyme disease,” Danielle told the outlet.
Lyme disease “is an illness caused by borrelia bacteria. Humans usually get Lyme disease from the bite of a tick carrying the bacteria,” according to the Mayo Clinic. “The symptoms of Lyme disease vary. They usually show up in stages. But the stages can overlap. And some people don’t have symptoms of the typical early stage.”
Despite sharing her diagnosis, Danielle did not share much information about how her battle with Lyme disease looks like.
Danielle continued, “I also had eczema on my scalp, which was likely from the inflammation [caused by Lyme disease]. The hair loss was very traumatic. I got to a point where I wanted to wear a wig.”
As she continued to struggle with her hair loss, Danielle tried to wear hair extensions. However, the extensions irritated her eczema and ultimately made her even more uncomfortable.
“I had to go out and do things with Kevin. I just wanted to feel like myself,” she shared of how the struggle impacted her day to day life.
Danielle, who married Kevin, 37, in 2009, went on to explain how her personal experience with eczema has prepared her for talking to her daughters about their own skin issues. The couple are the proud parents to daughters Alena, 11, and Valentina, 8.
“They saw everything I went through, so the main thing I tell them [when their eczema flares up] is, ‘This is going to pass,'” Danielle told the outlet of what she tells her daughters.
Eczema is “a skin condition that causes dry and itchy patches of skin. It’s a common condition that isn’t contagious,” according to the Cleveland Clinic. “Symptoms of eczema can flare up if you contact an irritant or an allergen. There are treatments available to help you manage symptoms, but there isn’t a cure.”

Danielle went on to share that she had to “reel Alena back in a little bit” because “she’s always had other skin issues” in addition to eczema.
“So keeping things clean for her is important,” the mother of two said of her eldest daughter. “Still, she gets mad because she wants to have fun with certain products. I just tell her, ‘Well, do you want a flare-up or do you want it to get it under control? That helps her come back down.'”
Also during the interview, Danielle revealed how Kevin really feels about being a girl dad. “Kevin never really mentioned wanting boys, so when we had two girls, he was beside himself. He always gives them their way, but the biggest thing is just how much he loves them,” she shared. “He flies home every chance he can. Even if it’s a day off and a six-hour flight, he’ll come home for a couple of hours and then fly back. I give him so much credit for that.”
