General Hospital star Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis) took home her first Daytime Emmy win in the Lead Actress category.
It was a moment decades in the making for Grahn. The soap actress has won two Daytime Emmys before in the Supporting Actress category, but this was her first Lead Actress win.
Grahn used the moment to thank Frank Valentini for giving her a job where she has gotten to do what she loves for a living for 29 years, all while raising her daughter as a single mom. After the various thank yous and shout-outs, Grahn used her time on stage to share a passionate speech about the state of our country.
The Daytime Emmys were the night before the No Kings protest, making her speech more powerful. Comedian Kathry Griffin reshared Grahn’s speech on Threads to give her friend mad props for kicking off the protest early.
“Well, looks like my pal @nancyleegrahn started the protest a little early. 🙂 Turn up the volume. This is from her Emmy win last night. What a baddie! 💪❤️,” the comedian wrote.
Grahan showed up in the comments to respond, saying, “Love you.” Several fans also chimed in to gush over the soap icon speaking her mind and using her platform despite the backlash it may cause.
“There she is using her soapbox! I couldn’t stop crying! I knew all year she would be nominated and win! ❤️❤️” stated a fan. Another fan wrote, “I expected nothing less from her and she definitely deserved to win.”
One fan shared, “Love NLG. Fearless and doesn’t play 🙌🏻.” A fan expressed, “Love her for her courage to speak out regardless of the consequences. ….I stand up for Nancyleegrahn.”
“No kings, but we have so many queens,” read another comment.
Grahn got even more support for her speech when she reshared it on Instagram.
Some of General Hospital’s co-stars popped up in the comments to react to her words.
“Stand Up !!! Sooo Great !!!! Congratulations xoxox !!!” wrote Laura Wright (Carly). Grahan’s on-screen daughter, Kristen Vaganos (Molly) declared, “Love you to the moon.”
