Kim Kardashian‘s latest Skims drop stirred up quite a bit of controversy on the internet — and now she’s speaking out after the viral product sold out.
Last week, the brand shared that they were releasing the Faux Hair Micro String Thong, a line of underwear that featured fake hair in a variety of different textures and colors, from blonde to red, brown and black, and from straight to curly.
“Who said the carpet has to match the drapes?” the brand wrote on social media on Oct. 14. “Our most shocking panty, ever, is available now.”
The undies, which retailed for $32 a piece on the Skims website, divided fans over their controversial nature, and Kardashian faced some backlash over the unique item. But despite the response, the product sold out almost instantly, which even surprised Kardashian.
“I had no idea that it would have quite the reaction and that it would sell out in a few minutes,” Kardashian shared with Variety on Saturday (Oct. 18).
As for how it all came to be, she added, “That was just a fun idea that I had. There was a shoot and someone wanted to have hair down there once and I was like, ‘Couldn’t this just be easy and have it on a thong?’ And so we made that happen.”
Kardashian noted that there may be more controversial products on the way as the brand is always working on things that push the envelope.
“There will be some things. I think it’s always fun to mix it up. We have our nipple bra, our butt and hip [enhancing] shapewear…you never know what we’ll surprise you with,” Kardashian said.
