Each year, millions of applicants across the country appear for the UPSC Civil Services Examination, conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). The selection process consists of the Preliminary Exam, Main Exam, and Interview process. The number of candidates is drastically reduced after the Preliminary Exam. Only a few thousand actually make it to the Interview process. In this article, we will discuss the success story of a woman, an IAS Officer, who belongs to Jova village, Narsinghpur district, Madhya Pradesh. Her family comes from humble backgrounds. Her father is a farmer. She is married to IFS officer Garvit Gangwar.
Tapsya did not qualify for the civil service exam on her first attempt. But she qualified for the UPSC Civil Services Exam (CSE) in 2016 in her second attempt, without any coaching. In her first attempt, Tapsya reportedly had taken coaching, but did not get through. After learning from her mistakes, she prepared systematically and qualified for the examination without coaching. She has secured the All India Rank(AIR) 23 in India. Tapasya Parihar is an IAS officer of the UPSC Civil Service year 2017 batch.
Tapsya Parihar completed her studies at Kendriya Vidyalaya in her hometown, Narsinghpur. After completing her schooling, Tapsya studied law and completed her LLB studies at the India Law Society Law College, Pune. She subsequently started studying for the UPSC exam. After working intently, making notes, and months of studying, Tapsya was finally successful.
IAS officer Tapsya Parihar married IFS officer Garvit Gangwar in December 2021. Their wedding gained attention for a special reason: Tapsya refused to take part in the “Kanyadaan” ceremony at the wedding. Kanyadaan is a custom in Hindu weddings where the father gives away the bride to the groom, symbolizing the transfer of responsibility. During the ceremony, Tapsya spoke to her father, stating “I am not an object to be given,” and decided not to be a part of Kanyadaan.
