It’s unclear why Rep. Eric Swalwell won’t “serve his constituency by focusing on reducing violent crime in this country,” but calling his entire political record nonsense would be an understatement. Saying he has been a disaster for both his constituents and Congress still doesn’t fully capture the extent of it.

Swalwell and FBI Director Kash Patel had a heated exchange on Wednesday, trading barbs while debating Epstein grand jury records and Patel’s book, Government Gangsters.

Genuine question: Is an insult an insult if it’s also a fact?

It’s about time someone confronted him directly. Swalwell has long been a source of public embarrassment, and perhaps now he’ll begin facing accountability for his actions—but that seems unlikely.

To be fair, Patel was being quite generous here. Swalwell had a romantic relationship with a woman later revealed to be a suspected Chinese spy. How he is still holding that seat defies reason—and that’s exactly why Patel spoke out.

Just imagine if Swalwell were a Republican. He likely wouldn’t have had that conversation with Patel because he shouldn’t have been reelected. Yet, for some reason, voters in California believe he is the best person to represent them. And although this defies all reason, he gets a pass simply because he is a Democrat.

It’s comical that Swalwell considers himself an authority on national intelligence, believing he can lecture Patel on the subject. But given the current state of the Democratic Party, this isn’t surprising. “Standards for thee, but not for me” might as well be their new motto.

As Patel would say, Swalwell is nothing more than a “political buffoon,” and it’s refreshing to see someone call him out to his face.
