Pedestrian dead after tragic Queens accident near Van Wyck expressway

One pedestrian is dead and another was injured when a Mercedes Benz rear ended another car that was stopped and waiting to turn onto the Van Wyck expressway in Queens on Saturday, according to the NYPD.

A 51-year-old woman became pinned under a Toyota Scion that was turning from Liberty Avenue onto the busy highway at about 2:30 p.m., cops said.

Both the unidentified 51-year-old woman and another 34-year-old female pedestrian were taken to Jamaica Hospital by EMS, according to the NYPD.

The 51-year-old was pronounced dead at the hospital. The 34-year-old remains in stable condition, the NYPD said.

Both the 58-year-old female driver of the Toyota and the 65-year-old female driver of the Mercedes Benz remained at the scene, according to the NYPD.
